Wine Tasting

Here are some pics of us in "full on" wine tasting mode. The weather could not have been better!

Marlborough - Blenheim

This wine region is know for its' chardonnay, pinot gris and mostly sauvignon blanc. We were here for 6 days and stayed with my mom's old high school friend, Sue, who lives here with her family. We were able to test many tasty wines, eat great local food, and learn a lot about cricket. Sue's son play cricket for the Canadian team.

Marlborough

Wine country here we come! Timmy started it off right with a roadie...just kidding. That is way to ghetto for wine country!

Cape Farewell

This was a long peninsula that juts out on the west coast of the south island and is said to be the northern
most point of the south island. The beach consists of huge sand dunes and we felt like we were in a Starwars movie...it was unreal!

Abel Tasman

This day Tim and I decided to take an
aqua taxi from one end of the Abel Tasman into the middle of the park to Anchorage Bay. This is the only way into the park other than by foot. We then spent the day trekking back to our car (we walked a total of 17 kilometers). This was one of the many bays where we stopped to enjoy the scenery along the way.

Abel Tasman National Park

This is the famous Split Apple Rock in one of the bays in the Abel Tasman. It is crazy to see it in person! This is one place we saw before my mom joined us but we wanted to take her back to see it. You can see the difference the sun makes in the way the water looks. The day we were there with my mom it was overcast and drizzling.

Seal Beach

This is a couple weeks later when we took Mum to see this beach. Again, this is the same huge rock formation as in the other pictures below.

Seal Beach

These are pics of some of the HUGE rock formations that are on this beach. As you walk along the beach the rocks start to look different. This is the same rock formation in both of these pictures, but from different vantage points.

Seal Beach

In this pic of Tim, and the one of me below, there is a big seal in the background lounging in the sun taking a nap. You have to look hard b/c he blends into the background really well. The baby seals also blend into the rocks very well, so you can only see the outline of them.

Seal Colony

I can't remember the name of this beach...I have it written down somewhere, but can't remember where I put it at the moment, so we will call it Seal Beach. Tim, my mom, and I walked for about 40 minutes through hilly pastures to reach this magnificient beach. The sand was powder white and, better yet, there was a seal colony with about 8 babies in it. We got close enough to touch them, but we didn't. It was truly a special place and there were only a couple of other people there, so it was like we had the beach to ourselves!
